When I began my real estate career in 1990, in Barrie, I was practising for my driver's license and studying toward my real estate license at the same time(No, I was Not 16). Driving was not required where I grew up in mid-town Toronto as the subway was only a short walk away. Frankly, Toronto driving scared the bejeezus out of me. Comfortable, kindly Barrie seemed a less daunting venue in which to learn to drive. It was also a friendly place to do business, where trust, handshakes and honesty seemed the rule of the local real estate professionals.
It is those values I still live and work by and helping folks of all walks of life with their housing needs brings me much joy and satisfaction.
Over the years, I have come to realize the most rewarding work in my field is with my more mature clients. While many of my 50+ clients are well versed in electronic communication, there are many who do not own a computer or Smart Phone.
Real Estate is not just about property. It's about people and nothing can replace being there in person or a conversation over the phone. With the overload of complex information about today's real estate processes, people need a proper explanation of the steps involved in selling and buying with an opportunity to ask questions and be clear on all that's involved. They sometimes need help to get organized, make a to-do list and execute the work. My style is hands on, face to face and always accessible to my clients. The last thing I want to be is a figurehead with a bevy of minions doing all the work.
Don't get me wrong, because I like to do business the old fashioned way -face to face- does not mean I am in the dark ages with technology.
